Over the years, our family has FINALLY given in to a simple understanding while under the roof of our home: if someone tells you that you smell, it’s your responsibility as a member of our family to accept it…and, handle it.
The person telling you that you smell is not somehow “wrong”.
They’re not “making it up”.
They are not trying to sabotage you.
They should not be trying to “make fun of you”.
Your response to, “You’re feet smell awful!” should not be, “NO THEY DON’T!” (granted, there is a more sensitive and productive way of saying that to someone)
Your response should not be to get mad at that person, walk away, and not speak to them for the rest of the night.
And, your response should also not be to totally ignore it and go about whatever you were doing before you were notified about your “situation”.
We haven’t gotten as deep into actually preventing the whole “smell” issue in the first place, but at least we’re dealing with the situation better.
